Happy New Year’s, everyone! I hope that you march into 2013 with some attainable resolutions, desires, and dreams. May you and your family have good health, happiness, peace, and prosperity!
I have a lot of personal and business goals/plans/ideas/dreams this year and I can’t wait to start tackling them all with an open heart and mind.
My mother says that 13 is one of her lucky numbers. I pray that it is a lucky number for all of us. Let’s make this year rock!

Today is a BIG day! Americans (of all genders, races, and religions) are fortunate and lucky enough to have the right to vote for a leader that they believe in. Not all countries have this right or freedom. If you have not already, please go and vote so that you can make a difference and take a stand on what you think will benefit you and your loved ones.

When some people think of Fall, they think of death, decay, and the beginning of darkness. I tend to see the opposite. I think that Fall is a magical, bright, and bountiful time filled with possibility and change. It is a time of year when we get the chance to redefine our goals and how we present ourselves to the world. It is also the time of year when the delicious starchy and sweet crops that were planted during the summer ripen and nourish our bellies and souls. I absolutely love going to the farmer’s market during this time of year and seeing the colorful and lush assortment of apples, squash, gourds, potatoes, dark leafy greens, carrots, radishes, and nuts. The rich greens, reds, oranges, and browns of the season are as comforting as the warm blankets, soft knitted sweaters and accessories, and hot cups of spiced cider or tea that I begin to crave and utilize the minute the air turns crisp and chilly.
This Fall is especially special to me, because I launched Bonded Forever this past September. All of my hard work has yielded my company’s first batch of jewelry. Please go to www.bondedforeverjewelry.com to pick the first fruit of my labors. I look forward to seeing how people respond to my crop so that I can fine tune the growth cycle for the next season.

The beautiful gemstones in this display case served as a catalyst for Bonded Forever. During a staff meeting at Eviama Life Spa (I’m a part-time massage therapist), my boss, Penny, refreshed our memories about the spa’s Crystal Chakra Harmonizing service. She talked to us briefly about the beneficial healing powers of stones and educated us on some of the beautiful gemstones in her large collection. I had just found out that my mother had metastatic Colon Cancer several months ago and I became enraptured by the conversation. At the end of our meeting, Penny mentioned that she was going to a gemstone expo and asked if we had any requests. I quietly raised my hand and told her that I wanted to make my mother a special jewelry set for the Winter holidays and asked if she would kindly find some special beads for me.
After the meeting was over, I scoured through 5 different gemstone guide books and made a list of all of the stones that I thought would be beneficial for my mother. Penny was able to find a beautiful strand of flat oval citrine beads and a square pendant that contained Smoky Quartz, Smoky Amethyst, and Lepidocrocite at the expo. I was able to combine the citrine beads and the pendant with some faceted Smoky Quartz beads, glass seed beads, and silver spacers that I purchased at a bead store. The gift set that I ended up making for my Mother with all of those components put the entire design scheme for Bonded Forever into motion.*
*Please note that although I do not advertise the possible healing benefits of each of the semi-precious gemstones in Bonded Forever’s jewelry, I do put a lot of thought and effort into the specific gemstones that I choose to use in each design.

A couple of weeks ago my Dad and I filmed my video promo for Bonded Forever. I’m so luck to have such a talented and patient father that I can collaborate with so effortlessly. Stay tuned for the finished product!

I always stop to look at the Farm Journal Building’s 2nd floor windows whenever I pass by. My mother used to always get a window seat whenever she had to get her infusions at the Joan Karnell Cancer Center. She really loved to look out at Washington Square Park; it was a great mental escape from her very long infusion treatments. I took this picture while standing in the the space that was the exact vantage point from my Mother’s favorite seat. I am really thankful for all of the people that work in that building. They helped cure my Mother from cancer and I will forever be grateful for all of their hard work and determination.
Ironically, right after I posted this Instagram and walked away, I heard a thud. I turned around and saw that the tree I had been standing close to while taking the picture had literally snapped in half. It was a eery reminder of of quickly our lives can end or be saved.

Happy belated Summer Solstice everyone! Instead of guzzling wine and champagne, I like to celebrate seasonal changes and holidays by doing hardcore yoga. I enjoy pushing my body to its limit so that I can sweat out all of the emotional and physical baggage that I am holding onto and start anew. Therefore, I participated in Dhyana Yoga’s Summer Solstice Yoga Mala and crazily attempted to do 108 sun salutations outside during a heat wave! Although I’m sore today, I feel super refreshed and recharged. I’m truly thankful for my strength, endurance, and willpower.
If you would like to read more about my sweaty adventure, please read my article, 108 Sun Salutations for the Summer Solstice, at Searching for Root 101.

Beadworks is my absolutely favorite bead store in Philadelphia. I love walking around the store and looking at all of the beautiful assortments of beads and metal findings ( I mean seriously, what girl doesn’t like to look at pretty, shiny things?) There is so much eye candy there that I sometimes get too overwhelmed and leave empty handed. I’m so happy that I was able to focus today and find some beautiful strands of beads. There is nothing more satisfying than walking home with a clandestine big brown paper bag filled with my handpicked treasures. I can’t wait to turn these beads into one of a kind jewelry creations for Bonded Forever. Stay tuned!

Happy Mother’s Day to all of the mother’s out there!
I’m so lucky to have an awesome mother and grandmother. It is also such a blessing that they are both still here. I wish that I could have celebrated the holiday with them today, but I unfortunately was on call for work and was not allowed to leave the area. I’m happy that my mom was able to text me this picture. They both look so good (I especially love my Mom’s new haircut)! The only thing missing in this picture is my sister and I.
Although I couldn’t be with them today, I was able to have two nice phone chats with them. My Mom reported that she had a really nice visit at my Grammy and Grandpa’s house, a long relaxing walk along the Jersey Shore, dessert at a gourmet ice cream shop, and a fancy dinner at a restaurant that overlooked the ocean. She totally deserved to have such a nice and relaxing day. She works so hard and has been through so much.
Thank you, Mom, for being the best mother that a daughter could have. I appreciate all of the sacrifices that you have made for me, your helpful advice, and your unconditional love. You always proudly said that being a mother was your greatest achievement and that one of the best rewards for it would be if your two daughters could always like AND love you. I like you and love you, Mom!

I’m very fortunate to live in a city where there are beautiful murals and mosaics everywhere. They keep the urban city environment ebullient and colorful and make my daily walks through the city more enjoyable and stimulating. However, like any city, I also have to walk past a plethora of brick walls, pavement, and windows that are covered with spray painted swear words, random crude (and sometimes funny) statements, and people’s names. Luckily, there has been a friendlier street art movement happening in Philadelphia and all over the world called, yarn bombing (which involves tagging something with wrapped, knitted, or crocheted yarn).
Although this wheatpasted doily (which I believe was made by Tim Gibbons) isn’t made of yarn, it falls into that same friendly street art category. When I saw this on the corner of Bainbridge St. and Broad St, it instantly put a smile to my face. It made me think of handmade Valentine’s Day cards and the paper snowflakes that I used to make in grade school (although mine were never this good). I was also excited to see this, because I had read an article in Side Arts about Tim Gibbons a couple of months ago. All of the doilies that were photographed in the article were taken in West Philly, so it was a great surprise to see one in real life in Center City.
