I absolutely love First Fridays in Old City, Philadelphia.  I enjoy meandering through the historic cobblestone streets and alleyways and exploring the different opening receptions of art exhibitions.  There is truly inspiration and beauty everywhere the eye can see.  My best childhood friend, Laura, was visiting and it was so nice to be able to take a companion with me to this month’s First Friday.  Our good conversations and laughter definitely made the night extra special.

I saw an amazing show at the Wexler Gallery called WILD Nature.  All of the work was absolutely beautiful and I got completely lost in all of the artwork.  The piece that I took a picture of is entitled, “Tulip.”  The artist, Jennifer Trask, carved the whole thing out of bone and antler.  It is hard to believe that she was able to create something so delicate and intricate out of such dense and rigid organic materials.

Blades of Hope by Cassandra Hoo, Bonded Forever

To play along with the theme from yesterday’s photo inspiration post, I thought that this picture also symbolized resilience and hope.  I also think that the blades of grass and the divide between the two pieces of cement can represent the breakthrough towards wellness.

Baby Tree Emerging from the Sidewalk

I glean a lot of interesting facts and bits of wisdom from my yoga teachers.  In the beginning of class, many of my teachers often tell a story or paint a picture that can metaphorically relate to the message or class theme that they are trying to convey.  One day, my teacher, Alex Holmes, mentioned that she loves finding blades of grass, weeds, or small trees rising up out of the cracks of pavement.  She explained how she thinks it shows nature’s ability to have resilience and how beauty and life can form and take root in even the most inhospitable circumstances.  Alex said that over a year ago, and I still think of her whenever I see some form of life poking its head up through the sidewalk.

When I saw these green leaves shooting up from the ground, at the cracked junction where cement meets brick (and a yucky discarded cigarette butt), I knew I had to take a picture up it.  I reminded me that anything and everything is possible.

Philly Skyline View From My Rooftop

#BondedForever Photo Inspiration of the Day Instagram

I’m so fortunate and lucky that my boyfriend, Travis, and I moved into a beautiful house this past January.  We have the most amazing view of the Philadelphia skyline from our roof. I remember the moment when our realtor took us up onto the roof for the first time during our tour. The chilly winter air and view took our breath away. We both looked at each other and mentally said, “Sold!”

I absolutely love Philadelphia and I can’t imagine myself living in any other city. Whenever I’m feeling down or low on energy, I know that I can go up on my roof, breath in the crisp air, take in the silent energetic pulse of the City of Brotherly Love, marvel at the skyline, and know that everything will be okay.
