Happy New Year’s, everyone!  I hope that you march into 2013 with some attainable resolutions, desires, and dreams.  May you and your family have good health, happiness, peace, and prosperity!

I have a lot of personal and business goals/plans/ideas/dreams this year and I can’t wait to start tackling them all with an open heart and mind.

My mother says that 13 is one of her lucky numbers.  I pray that it is a lucky number for all of us.  Let’s make this year rock!

Happy Holidays 2012 Instagram

Bonded Forever hopes that you have a wonderful holiday filled with great company, merriment, delicious food, and thoughtful presents.  Stay warm and cozy!

Cameron Von St. James and his Family

Cameron Von St. James, a blogger for the Mesothelioma Cancer Alliance, contacted me about the possibility of writing a guest blog about how he and his family handled the news of his wife being diagnosed with malignant mesothelioma right before the holidays. I really was delighted that he contacted me, because his subject matter was something that I could relate to.  My mother received her first chemotherapy treatment during the holiday season and it was really painful to watch someone I loved struggle and not feel well during such a joyous and celebratory time of the year.  I’m sure there are many people who have been in similar situations as Cameron and I and I hope that his story can help others cope.

COPING WITH CANCER DURING THE HOLIDAYS

By Cameron Von St. James

Von St. James Family PortraitI love the holidays. It really is the time when I connect with the people who are most important to me to celebrate and carry on our most loved traditions. In 2005, my wife and I celebrated the birth of our daughter in August, and we were thrilled about her first Christmas and Thanksgiving that year. There was so much we wanted to share with our daughter. However, three days before Thanksgiving, Heather was given terrible news.

Lily, our baby, was less than four months old when Heather received her diagnosis of malignant mesothelioma. Suddenly we had to start thinking about how she could fight and what we could do for her. I was angry and afraid, and I that year I felt that I had little to be thankful for during the holidays that followed.

Despite all of our fears, we did manage to have a Thanksgiving and a Christmas. Heather’s family came in to celebrate the holidays with us, and we shared our Thanksgiving dinner as usual. After the meal, we had the conversation that I had been dreading.  We had to discuss with Heather’s family everything that we would need help with throughout this difficult time.

We talked about everything from the money we had in the bank to the childcare that our new daughter would need. We discussed income, assets, debts and the expenses we could expect to be coming our way in the months that followed. Heather’s family Cameron Von St. James and his Daughteroffered to help us pay for whatever they could afford, and we talked about what we could liquidate for cash to help us through.  I was embarrassed and ashamed, and felt like I had failed as a husband and caregiver.  Again, I found myself thinking that I had absolutely nothing to be thankful for that year.

It took me years before I could really appreciate the true meaning of that day, and look back to see how very blessed I actually was in that moment. Our family was with us every step of the way. They dropped everything to be by our sides, and made huge sacrifices to help us through. My pride stopped me from seeing it, but looking back now, years later, I can see how truly lucky I was to have them.

This holiday season, I am making a resolution to keep that good will and that generosity primary in my mind. I have a healthy little girl, and my wife by my side, and we all have an opportunity to make more memories together. Against all odds, and with the help of our loving and supportive family, Heather beat her mesothelioma and we’ve been able to celebrate seven Christmas’s and counting as a family of three.  We hope that our story can be a source of hope and inspiration to all those currently fighting cancer this holiday season.

Bonded Forever wishes that everyone has a wonderful holiday season filled with good company, optimal health, merriment, and plentiful amounts of warm spiced apple cider and hot chocolate.

Bonded Forever’s “Be Brave” Gift Set’s rich brick red, dark green, black, and silver beads suitably match the festive colors of the winter holidays.  The bracelets in the gift set will pair well with your cute holiday outfits (and embarrassing, itchy Christmas sweaters).  The gift set will also be a thoughtful way to tell someone that you love and support them.  Bonded Forever’s whole concept actually was created exactly two years ago when my mother started her first round of chemotherapy in December.  The jewelry gift set that I made for my mother, sister, and me during the holidays uplifted our spirits and helped us stay bonded together while my mother bravely battled for her life.  You can read more about my company’s inspirational backstory on my About Page.

You can get your “Be Brave” Gift Set today at Bonded Forever’s e-store, www.bondedforeverjewelry.com.  Please use the promo code, BRAVE, to received 15% off.  The offer expires on December 25, 2012.

AWE Name Tag

I am happy to announce that the Alliance of Women Entrepreneurs (AWE) selected me (Cassandra Hoo), to be a 2013 Fellow in the Building Bridges Fellowship Program.  I never felt so honored or excited to wear the name tag pictured above.  AWE’s fellowship program selects 3-4  female students and early stage entrepreneurs per year and helps them develop and grow their businesses through education, coaching, mentoring, networking, positivity, and exposure to investment opportunities.

The annual AWE gala event that I attended on Tuesday night was “AWE”-inspiring.  It made the acceptance letter into the program a reality and introduced me to a new world of endless possibilities and opportunities.  The energy and confidence that many of the guests radiated was palpable.  It felt good to be around other go-getters that think big and have desire to make dreams come to fruition.

I can’t wait to have my first meeting with my mentor, Heather Gibson, (Principal at Sentry Art Advisory Services), and my professional life coach, Jill Magerman (Atrio Life Coaches).  I already like our team’s dynamic and I truly believe that they are going to help me take Bonded Forever to the next level.

ArtNUDE Philly was a Success!

ArtNUDE Philly’s two day opening night at the James Oliver Gallery was a wonderful success.  So many people came to the event on both nights to raise money and awareness for the Linda Creed Breast Cancer Foundation.  There was a plethora of beautiful artwork at the show in a variety of different mediums and styles, live music, and meaningful performances.  I was honored that my collection of Bonded Forever jewelry made it into the show and I’m happy that it garnered attention, sales, and positive feedback.

(Left to right: Scarred by Lauren Rinaldi, Hope by Chuck Hosier, and She by Pete Checchia)

A lot of the artwork at the show was very thought provoking, graphic, and raw.  There was a series of photographs by Jayne Toohey that shook me too my core.  The photographs documented a woman’s journey through a double breast reconstruction surgery.  I met the woman from the photos at the event and she was so vibrant, full of life, and cancer free (yay!).  It was such a wonderful gift to be able to see her still alive and kicking. It’s good to know that there fortunately IS a light at the end of the tunnel for so many people and I hope that the advancement in medicine and research can help save more lives in the future.

I encourage you to go see the show before it closes next month.  All proceeds from the show will be donated to the Linda Creed Breast Cancer Foundation.  The James Oliver Gallery is open on Monday-Tuesday (by appointment only), Wednesday-Friday 5-8PM, and Saturdays 12PM-8PM. If you have questions about any of the Bonded Forever jewelry in the in the show, please feel free to send an email to jamesolivergallery@gmail.com or call 267 918 7432.  You can also contact Bonded Forever at info@bondedforeverjewelry.com.

When some people think of Fall, they think of death, decay, and the beginning of darkness.  I tend to see the opposite.  I think that Fall is a magical, bright, and bountiful time filled with possibility and change.  It is a time of year when we get the chance to redefine our goals and how we present ourselves to the world.  It is also the time of year when the delicious starchy and sweet crops that were planted during the summer ripen and nourish our bellies and souls.  I absolutely love going to the farmer’s market during this time of year and seeing the colorful and lush assortment of apples, squash, gourds, potatoes, dark leafy greens, carrots, radishes, and nuts.  The rich greens, reds, oranges, and browns of the season are as comforting as the warm blankets, soft knitted sweaters and accessories, and hot cups of spiced cider or tea that I begin to crave and utilize the minute the air turns crisp and chilly.

This Fall is especially special to me, because I launched Bonded Forever this past September.  All of my hard work has yielded my company’s first batch of jewelry.  Please go to www.bondedforeverjewelry.com to pick the first fruit of my labors.  I look forward to seeing how people respond to my crop so that I can fine tune the growth cycle for the next season.
